One setup. Your projects. Your choice of AI client.
Sign in with your company Microsoft account. In Plane’s personal settings, create an API key named 8ight AI gateway with a 90-day expiry. Enter its value once on your connection page, then select your projects.
Connect my accountUse your personal account’s key. Never share an administrator or another employee’s key.
codex mcp add plane --url https://plane-mcp.8ight.works/mcp codex mcp login plane
Complete the company Microsoft sign-in in your browser, then start a fresh Codex session.
claude mcp add --transport http --scope user plane https://plane-mcp.8ight.works/mcp
Open /mcp in Claude Code, select Plane and authenticate with Microsoft.
Enable Developer mode in your account or approved company workspace. Create an MCP connection with URL https://plane-mcp.8ight.works/mcp and OAuth authentication, then sign in with Microsoft. Availability and publication controls depend on the account and workspace; do not change your subscription to complete this setup.
Add the same URL as a Streamable HTTP MCP server with OAuth. Clients with only stdio support need their own supported HTTP adapter.
Use Plane to show my connection status and list my projects.
Then test in Integration Sandbox:
Create a task called “My AI connection test”, assign it to me, update its priority to low, and close it after verifying each update.
Review write confirmations in your client. Task content is data; your agent must not follow instructions embedded in task descriptions.
Create a named connection on your account page. Choose its projects and explicitly enable task writes if needed. Store the shown key in your harness’s protected secret store. It expires within 90 days and can be revoked here.
For Codex, set bearer_token_env_var = "PLANE_MCP_CONNECTION_KEY" on its HTTP MCP configuration. For other harnesses, supply the key through a protected environment variable as the bearer authorization header. Never put keys in a URL, command argument, repository, prompt or chat.
Only create, assign, update and close tools may be automatically approved for an unattended connection.
One company workspace, private projects. New projects use Backlog → Todo → In progress → Done, with Cancelled available. Each project owner manages membership. Existing projects and history are preserved.
